SpatialGen V3 for Apple Immersive Video and MV-HEVC Encoding

SpatialGen V3 improves Apple Immersive Video quality with a new MV-HEVC encoding pipeline for sharper Vision Pro playback at lower bitrates.

SpatialGen V3 Is Out Now for Apple Immersive Video

At AWE this year, SpatialGen took the stage to present with two separate partners: John Racine of Rogue Labs and David Hoffman of Blackmagic Design. During the talk with John Racine, we announced SpatialGen V3.

If you missed the talk, you can watch it here.

SpatialGen V3 is our latest encoding pipeline for Apple Immersive Video, immersive video, and MV-HEVC delivery on Apple Vision Pro. Video processed with SpatialGen is more magical, more clear, and more impactful than ever before.

For teams producing immersive video, quality is not only about resolution. The encoder has to preserve fine detail, stereoscopic depth, motion, contrast, and texture while still delivering a stream that can play reliably. SpatialGen V3 was built for that exact challenge: higher perceived quality, stronger objective scores, and more efficient MV-HEVC encoding.

What SpatialGen V3 Improves

SpatialGen V3 improves the encoding path for Apple Immersive Video and MV-HEVC by focusing on three practical outcomes:

  1. Sharper Vision Pro playback for immersive video content.
  2. Higher VMAF scores at lower bitrates.
  3. Better preservation of fine scene detail during MV-HEVC encoding.

To show you what we built, we have direct comparison screenshots and a VMAF graph. SpatialGen V3 consistently scores higher than industry benchmarks on lower bitrates. This is accomplished with SpatialGen’s internal V3 encoding pipeline.

Why MV-HEVC Encoding Quality Matters

MV-HEVC encoding is the foundation for high-quality stereoscopic playback on Apple Vision Pro. A weak encode can soften textures, flatten depth cues, introduce compression artifacts, or require unnecessarily high bitrates. In immersive video, those issues are more visible because the viewer is surrounded by the image.

SpatialGen V3 is designed to maintain the source image more faithfully through the MV-HEVC pipeline, which makes Apple Immersive Video feel more crisp, realistic, and comfortable to watch.

But how does this translate to the experience in the Vision Pro? Well SpatialGen customers experience significant quality improvements over other platforms, translating into a more crisp and realistic immersive experience. Consider the following SBS comparison:

If we zoom in on both images, we can see an even more pronounced difference on the diving boards:

SpatialGen delivers exceptional background fidelity. Notice the contrast on the diving boards. The numbers on the left are faded and obscured, while the SpatialGen encode keeps them sharp and legible. Furthermore, where the pool edge on the left loses definition and bleeds into the background, the SpatialGen side maintains a crisp, clear boundary. Even fine details, like the rope, are distinctly preserved.

Built for On-Demand and Live Immersive Video

The same dedication we bring to Apple Immersive Video encoding also powers our live video processing work. SpatialGen is building infrastructure for creators, studios, sports organizations, and enterprise teams that need video to look exceptional without forcing every team to become experts in codecs, bitrate ladders, and delivery infrastructure.

If you are working on live video, SpatialGen Zeus is out now and changing the cost model for broadcast. You can learn more at spatialgen.com/live.

Out Now

SpatialGen V3 is out now and available to all customers by default. To use V3 for Apple Immersive Video, immersive video, or MV-HEVC encoding, simply create a new stream.
